February 2025. In the drive toward Net-Zero Construction Sites, reducing carbon-emissions from heavy mobile equipment is key. Recently, Elemental Energy participated in a Proof of Concept (POC) with Komatsu, exploring the potential of green hydrogen technology as an off-grid charging solution for their new battery electric PC210LCE Excavator.
Trialled at the Komatsu UK site in Birtley, the POC utilised Elemental Energy’s H2IPO hydrogen microgrid unit, with green hydrogen supplied by Protium Green. The project provided valuable data on how green hydrogen can decarbonise heavy industry, from charging electric equipment to supporting temporary, renewable microgrids for on-site power.
Delivered green hydrogen provides a viable alternative to fossil-fuel energy and a more practical solution than transporting large battery systems to high-demand sites. Protium Green’s pioneering Hydrogen-as-a-Service model is now making green hydrogen readily available in the UK.
Elemental Energy’s H2IPO unit delivers reliable power to sites with no grid supply or where grid supply is limited, blending energy resources – including hydrogen, battery storage, solar and wind – to enable diesel-free operation.
