Boschendal
Delivering Clean, Reliable Power to Boschendal’s Eco-Estate
As part of a broader decarbonisation strategy, a leading eco-estate and hospitality destination has installed a clean energy system to power its guest cottages—replacing the diesel generator previously required to support the site’s unreliable grid connection. The estate, which includes a farm-to-table restaurant, wine-tasting centre, farm store, wedding venue, and extensive accommodation, now operates with a fixed ceiling on grid draw and relies on a hybrid battery-and-hydrogen system whenever backup power is needed.
This transition marks a major step in aligning the estate’s energy infrastructure with its long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship and regenerative agriculture.
Project Highlights
- The estate is a recognised leader in regenerative farming and plays a vital role in its local community.
- The new system provides clean, reliable backup power to guest cottages through a combination of battery storage and hydrogen fuel-cell technology.
- Diesel generation has been fully replaced with a silent, zero-emission solution.
- An on-site electrolyser—powered by solar—is being installed to supply green hydrogen for the backup system, enabling a fully circular renewable energy model.
